12 brilliant things to do in London in May
Apr 28We can’t quite believe summer is almost upon us! To celebrate the upcoming warmer months (we hope!), we have a few ideas and some inspiration on brilliant things to do in London in May. From brilliant floristry to food festivals and the upcoming double bank holiday, there’s more than a few reasons why this month will be one to remember…
1. A tipple and a tour
Consider yourself a gin connoisseur? First up on our list of things to do in London in may is a grand gin tour with complimentary tasting selections at the Sipsmith Distillery for an insight into the history and beginnings of this iconic British gin. Tickets are £25 which includes gin tastings and a guided tour in the evenings, simply perfect for summer nights! Cheers!
2. Inspiring Walt Disney
Take a trip to The Wallace Collection to visit this marvellous Disney exhibition. Making a wonderful family day out for all ages, this exhibition starts on the 16th April – 16 October and details the early beginnings of the iconic animations. With original sketches from favourites like Cinderella and Beauty and The Beast, see how the drawings came to life on screen as well as the inspirations from Rococo art.
3. Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park
Begin your summer of fun at Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park – a festival that’s as much about the food as it is the music! Held in nine different locations starting 12th May – 18th September, including Wimbledon Park, Tom Kerridge is back at it again serving up delicious tasting menus alongside his group of chef friends. Expect amazing dishes celebrating great British pubs, drinks and live music to get you into the summer spirit.
4. The Chiswick car-boot sale
As we finish our Spring cleaning and re-consider what’s hanging in our wardrobes, there’s no time like the present than to head to a good ol’ car boot sale. Buying second hand is not only great for the planet but also an amazing way to find unique pieces you can upcycle and give a new lease of life. Local to the West? Chiswick’s car boot sale is next open on the 1st May with all the proceeds going toward the Chiswick School Parent Teacher’s Association.
5. Chelsea in bloom
Running from the 23rd – 28th May, celebrate the beginning of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Chelsea with Chelsea in bloom! Witness the brilliant displays of stunning floristry around the local shops and down the King’s Road. This year’s theme of British Icons is not to be missed and better yet…it’s set to be a scorcher of a week (we hope so at least)!
6. Enter the world of ASMR
Did you know ASMR is also known as a brain massage? It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it’s an intriguing conversation starter. Tingle your senses and try this alternative relaxation method by visiting the world of ASMR at the Design Museum from the 13th May. Step into the brilliant exhibition exploring all senses and listen to the sounds of strangers.
7. Time for tea!
We think cake and tea are always better in the sunshine and Petersham Nurseries is the perfect place to take a Sunday stroll and to enjoy a spot of Afternoon Tea. Close to Richmond Park and offering gorgeous views of the River Thames, this is the spot to spend the day relaxing amongst the amazing greenery and wildlife.
8. After hours at a gallery
After a cute date spot? Spend an evening at Tate Modern Lates, held at the end of each month where you enjoy all the gallery has to offer after hours. From a range of displays, workshops, film screenings and talks, this is definitely one for the bucket list when in need of a fun evening out.
9. All aboard a Go Boat!
With the sun shining, the river seems all the more irresistible. Whether you’re after a day out with the family or just some friends, rent a Go Boat in Kingston to enjoy a scenic afternoon on the River Thames that won’t be forgotten! Seating up to eight people, this has to be at the top of our list of brilliant things to do in London in May.
10. Whack out the rollerblades
Still have those skates you bought on impulse during lockdown? Join the summer activity that involves some serious rollerblading around the city. The London Friday Night Skate and Sunday Stroll club meet up weekly to skate around, a brilliant way to meet new people and improve your moves!
11. A show like no other
One of our favourite things to do in London in May is to check out what’s on at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre…and it’s a good’un! Legally blonde the musical is showcasing this May and we can’t wait to grab a pair of tickets. The best part? We get to sit outside and take in the gorgeous surroundings…with maybe a pimms or two!
12. Head to the beach…cinema
Even though we can’t always guarantee the weather, Backyard Cinema means you can still enjoy a movie on the beach whilst being inside too! This immersive cinema shows brilliant classics that help you get into the spirit with their indoor beach cinema. Screening modern classics like Mamma Mia and Greece, we’ll be certain to be booking up for a girls day out.
