Feb 27Nothing ever feels quite special enough when it comes to saying thank you to mum. Gifting them a bar of chocolate and a supermarket candle one day a year doesn’t quite convey all of the love we feel for them does it?! They deserve to be spoiled, and Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to go the extra mile, which is why we have come up with this lovely list of unique Mother’s Day activities to spoil mum. Even if you already have your Mothers Day gift sorted, this list of things to do together is the perfect excuse to give mum the thing they love most – quality time together.
8 unique Mother’s Day activities to spoil mum
1. Recreate your favourite show

We don’t know about you but we are BIG fans of The Great British Bake Off here at Martha Brook, so imagine our excitement when we found out that you can take part in your very own bake-off experience! The Big Bakes have their own ‘bake-off’ style tents up and down the country, where you can go along and take part in your very own themed bake-off challenge. You compete in pairs so it is a great one to take your mum along to, especially if she is a dab hand in the kitchen!
2. Write letters to each other

This is one of our most wholesome unique Mother’s Day activities, and is something sentimental we would love to start doing every year. Sit down with your mum, take out your prettiest writing set and write some letters to each other. It can be about anything – it could even be to each other in the future! You could make your letter an ‘open when’ or a ‘just because’. Either way, we think this makes a lovely sentimental activity that she’s sure to cherish.
3. Have afternoon tea at home

Afternoon tea is a classic when it comes to Mother’s Day, but do you know what is better than dressing up to go and eat scones? Being able to to eat scones at home. You could even eat them in your pyjamas if you want! If there’s one thing that is universally true about mums, it is that they always seem to be running around with something to do. Why not treat her to a lovely spring afternoon at home, filled with delicious baked goods? The best part is, you don’t even have to get your hands dirty. You can order your very own afternoon tea in a box to be delivered to your door. Result!
4. Make an album of your favourite memories together

Next on our list of unique Mother’s Day activities is having a nostalgic afternoon creating an album of all your favourite photos together. There’s nothing a mum loves more than memories together, but nowadays it’s all too easy to leave them stuck on your phone or lost in the cloud! This is your sign to rectify that and truly give her a gift that will bring endless joy. Our new Linen Photo Album comes personalised, so all that is left to do is take a trip down memory lane and start adding all of the pictures together you love most. A beautiful activity to do together, and a gift all in one!
5. Go to a concert together

We don’t know about you, but our mums heavily influenced our music taste growing up (until we got our first iPod, that is). Whether your mum was the queen of power ballads or an indie music fanatic, going to a concert can be such a fun way to spend some time together. Go all-out, get dressed up and sing your hearts out to the songs of your childhood. It is an amazing way to create beautiful new memories that your mum will treasure forever.
6. Recreate a childhood photo

Does your Mum have a favourite childhood photo that she keeps pride of place? This is one of our Mother’s Day activities you can do together because it is both fun and sentimental – recreating your photos together from when you were younger. The best part of this activity is trying to recreate the outfits you used to wear. It’s a great excuse to hit the charity shops to see if you can dig out a match for those dungarees you loved when you were 5! Once you’re done, pop them into a lovely new frame or photo holder next to the old one, until you recreate it again in 20 years’ time!
7. Get Creative

Now that we’re adults, we definitely don’t get to have as much fun with our mums as we should. You’re never too old to try something new, so why not find a local craft class that tickles your fancy, to step out of your comfort zones together and get creative? You’ll come out of the other side having made something lovely, and you’ll have the memory of making those things together.
8. Go to an old movie screening

Last on our list of unique Mother’s Day activities is a good old-fashioned trip to the cinema. Do you remember the first time you went to see a movie on the silver screen – and was it with your mum? If you and the mum in your life have a movie that you love to enjoy together, or you know she has a favourite she could watch ten times over, why not find a local cinema that has a screening. Bonus points if it is a sing-along! The cinema giants regularly hold throwback sessions, and there are are lots of beautiful independent cinemas up and down the country who regularly show old favourites too, so there’s sure to be one you’ll enjoy playing soon.
