Ahhh, autumn. This time of year always has us excited for bright, crisp mornings, anything pumpkin spiced and getting that favourite knitted jumper out. As wholesome as autumn can feel, it also brings with it darker evenings so in honour of World Mental Health Awareness Day, we’re sharing some cosy self-care tips for autumn to help you embrace the season ahead.

9 cosy self-care tips for autumn

1. Have a digital sunset of no screens after 8pm and read instead

Naturally in autumn we spend a little more time indoors as the evenings draw in, which can mean we end up doom-scrolling (guilty!). But a brilliant way to look after yourself this autumn is by having a digital sunset where you put all devices in a drawer, grab a mug of herbal tea and curl up with a great book. Not only is it kind to your mind, it’s also kind to your eyes too and will set you up for a good night’s sleep. Win, win!

2. Take yourself for a solo coffee date somewhere new

Next up on our list of self-care tips for autumn is taking yourself on a coffee date somewhere you’ve been meaning to try. Looking after yourself is prioritising yourself, and all it takes is just half an hour out of your day to enjoy your favourite cup of something warm. Forget friends, this coffee date is just for you, whether that’s half an hour of reading your book, journaling what you’re grateful for or simply watching the world go by.

3. Rewatch an autumnal movie with a blanket and a bestie

Is there anything better than snuggling up under a blanket with your bestie to watch When Harry Met Sally or You’ve Got Mail?! We think not*! Curl up on the sofa together with either a blanket each or one to share, a marshmallow topped hot chocolate in hand, some sweet treats and a few face masks at the ready for a proper evening of pampering. Now, press play!

*We know we said earlier to have a digital detox after 8pm, but something as wholesome and heartwarming as this can be the exception to the rule!

4. Go for a walk to collect conkers and pretty leaves

No matter if you’re with family, friends or by yourself, challenge yourself to find some of the shiniest conkers for a hit of childhood nostalgia. Gather some pretty leaves too in varying shades of yellows, oranges and reds to have a crafts afternoon with your finds as you warm up over a cup of tea. Perfection!
