Looking after ourselves helps to create a sense of calm, balance, and control amongst the pressures of everyday life and taking time for you is key! We’d be lying if we said we didn’t take a sneak to the back of our magazines to find out what the universe has in store for us this month so in celebration of the launch of The Zodiac Box, we found out how aligning your self-care tips according to your star sign can actually help you look after yourself on a whole new level…

What are zodiac signs?

You might know which zodiac sign, or star sign, is yours (thank you, Cosmo!) but have you ever wondered what they actually are? Let us help! Dating back to the Babylonians some 3,000 years ago, each zodiac sign was named after a constellation the sun travelled through whilst moving through the sky every year.

Fun fact incoming… there are not 12 but 13 constellations the sun moves through and if we want to get technical the sun doesn’t pass through each constellation for an equal amount of time, as our star signs may allude to, but it must have made sense for astrologers back in the day to give each zodiac sign an equal measure of time here or there and to neaten the number to 12 to match each month in the year! Hey there, hard worker! First up on our list of self-care tips is one for Aries! If you’re an Aries, we’re guessing you’re extremely driven and dedicated to things that are important to you. That’s why a high-intensity workout suits the character traits of an Aries, conducting a highly focused workout to get that heart rate up! Not only will it leave you satisfied, but it will also help clear your mind and feel stronger for it, ready to tackle the next task at hand.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Get a goods night’s sleep

Is it bedtime already?! If you’re a Taurus, you’ve a thing or two at getting to bed nice and early, nabbing those essential 9 hours. Known to be pretty reliable and masters of perseverance, you need extra chill time to create that sense of balance. One of the best self-care tips for most star signs, but Taurus especially is getting to bed early… it will help you feel like a whole new person!  

Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Pick up your favourite book

Geminis are like whirlwinds, known for doing a million things at once and being super proactive! Social butterflies and loves a good ol’ natter, you can experience burn-out due to your always-on nature and willingness to help others so setting some time aside to have a moments calm will do wonders. Stick the kettle on, pick up your book and have 10 minutes of ‘you’ time.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Run yourself a hot bath

Nurturing, sensitive and compassionate, you take great pride in caring for others and always putting your friends and family before yourself. Because of your super caring nature, are we right in saying you might find it harder to look after you?! If you’re looking for a sign to take some time for number one and run a nice hot bath where you can switch off for an hour or two. Time to crack out the bubble bath, facemask and a tipple of choice!

Leo (July 23 – August 22): Channel your inner creative

Leos love to express themselves creatively so it’s important to express yourself in a way which makes you feel energised and happy. Taking time out explore your creativity, whether this is picking up the paints, learning a new skill like calligraphy, or trying your hand at pottery, is good for a Leo soul.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22): Have a deep clean and declutter

Logical, methodical, and often perfectionists, Virgos have tendencies to do everything they do incredibly well and to a high standard, which can often leave them overthinking things, anxious and unsettled when things feel out of control. Libra (September 23 – October 22): Keep a gratitude journal

Always up for a challenge, Scorpios will find the act of hiking in nature relaxing, the sounds around them calming, but also thrive off the challenge.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21): Take a trip away

The travellers of the zodiac, Sagittarius loves to see the world! With the desire to break out of your normal 9-5 routine, plan a trip for a spontaneous mid-week or long weekend break to somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit to satisfy your wanderlust.

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Treat yourself to a lay in

Alarms off! Capricorns are known to be dedicated to their work and struggle to take a break, even on your days off. When you can, make sure there isn’t an alarm in sight and treat yourself to a nice, cosy lay in. Listening to your body is super important so waking naturally will mean you’ll catch up on all the zzzs. What’s better than a lay in? A lay in with a cup of tea or coffee!

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18): Try your hand at some yoga

Keen on your mindfulness? Aquarius love to focus on the body and soul so why not give some yoga a go. Whether that’s in the comfort of your own home or it’s at your local gym, yoga will give you the space to clear your mind, be in the moment and focus on the rhythm of your breathing. And breathe out!

Pisces (February 19 – March 20): Start a dream journal

Keep on dreaming! Pisces are the dreamers of the zodiac signs so keep a dream journal to embrace your wild imagination. You’ll be fascinated by what you log down and might even begin to notice patterns. Lead with an evening ritual of winding down for bed, and make sure to keep your dream journal next to your bed so you can jot it down whilst it’s still fresh in mind.
