In our new Spotlight on Small blog series, we are counting down to Small Business Saturday by going behind the scenes at brilliant small businesses. This week we’d like to introduce you to Peardrop Avenue.
Meet the lovely Emily Muir from Peardrop Avenue. Whether it’s for a hen-do, wedding, or a new baby, Peardrop Avenue design beautiful stationery and accessories inspired by life’s special occasions.

What inspired you to start your business?
I started my business by accident really. I was living in London and had been trying to work my way up in the fashion industry after graduating, when we found out we were expecting our first baby. Unfortunately, I lost my job because of it (shocking, I know!) and we had to move out of London. An employment tribunal, baby and big move later, I decided to go back to what I specialised in at uni; Fashion illustration. I set up an Etsy shop and did it as a hobby really while my eldest was teeny tiny and also while wondering how to progress my career in Fashion in sleepy Hampshire! It wasn’t until I was approached by Notonthehightreet.com, having seen my products on Etsy, that I was really able to grow it and turn my hobby into a viable business. 3 years after joining NOTHS, I have a job that I absolutely love and can do around my two girls. I am a big believer in fate, and although it was tricky getting to this point, I wouldn’t swap it for anything.

What do you love most about what you do?
I love being able to use the skills I learnt from my degree and apply them to my own ideas, creations and business, rather than a big, soulless company. It’s been brilliant having the freedom to grow the business and fine tune my products. Working with brides and grooms is great and I love creating products for such important occasions.

Tell us about a typical working day
Working around my two little ones means that every day is different, but typically, in between doing the school runs, I spend the day making and packing the smaller orders that I need to get in the post; usually hen party badges, bridal & bridesmaid mirrors. I do most design work in the evenings, including the orders ready to start the next day and also invitation proofs to send to my lovely bride and grooms to be. I usually set aside a day or two a week to work on larger wedding stationery orders. All of this mixed in with updating my website, marketing and ordering stock means that it’s always pretty hectic, but I love it.

What are your bestselling products?
My bestselling product is the ‘Personalised Hen Party Badges‘; I’ll never get bored of doing them and love getting special requests to do specific captions. My bestselling wedding range is probably the ‘Travel Inspired’ products, especially the ‘Save the Date Magnets‘.

What are you doing for Small Business Saturday?
On Small Business Saturday, I’ll most probably be putting up our Christmas tree 🙂 and I’ll also be celebrating all the other fantastic small businesses by offering a 10% discount on all orders placed through my website, with the code PeardropSBS.
